Kings of Convenience

I discovered this duo quite by accident, but I am so glad I did. They are fantastic! Their music makes me feel relaxed and comfortable. I find myself becoming less stressed as I get lost in the melody and the lyrics. It's almost like spending a day at the spa...

I'm totally in love with them!

Funny...

So I was browsing the interwebs today when I came across a neat video.

TI$A and his crew and his produced this video, along with the tunes by one of my favorite current electro artists... Daedulus. It's got that neat 70's disco house feel to it, along with an interesting political view. However, I've the one catchy loop in it from none other than Ice Cube. The nice little guitar loop.

Neat little loop I'd say.
Oh wait, it goes back even farther.

The Isley Brothers with Footsteps in the Dark had the exact same loop in 1977. And it's got that disco r'b feel to it.

Videos and Music and Movies, Oh My!

So, I discovered Matthias Heuermann on youtube a while ago, and fell in love with his style. Mixing new and sometimes avant-garde songs with clips from classic movies, Heuermann has completely changed the way I view the relationship between movies and music. Some of my favorite Heuermann videos are the ones with a particular theme, usually derived from song lyrics. He will take a song and find movie clips that match, transforming the song into something entirely different. The song and its lyrics become something...tangible. It's fantastic!

Here are some of my favorites:

Cigarette in My Bed - My Bloody Valentine

Let's Dance - The Ramones

Feed Me with Your Kiss - My Bloody Valentine

Nostalgia

To quote Grover: "I had a terrible, awful day."

Of course, I have a playlist for that.
However, the playlist I orignally had in mind on this atrocious day did nothing to appease my vicious mood. To tell you the truth, I was rather shocked by my mood's choice in music.

Isn't that amusing? Hmm?

The playlist I ended up listening to was one that totally took me by surprise.

I had made the playlist at the end of last summer, and had entitled it Nostalgia. It represented all the mixed feelings I had about the summer ending and college beginning, losing new friends and making new, and entering the next stage of my life with blind enthusiasm. The songs on the playlist made me feel alive and immortal. I felt like the summer would never end and neither would my childhood.

It's funny then that the playlist I associate with feeling invincible can still apply to my mood when I'm feeling so...grounded.

Ah well. That's music.
